Welcome to Ashtanga AnatomyWe offer Mysore-style Ashtanga Yoga six days a week in Manchester city centre from 6:30AM
Ashtanga Yoga is a traditional system of yoga that was taught by Vamana Rishi in the Yoga Korunta. This text was imparted to Sri T. Krishnamacharya in the early 1900’s by his Guru Rama Mohan Brahmachari, and was later passed down to Sri K. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009), the founder of the Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India.
Ashtanga is a daily method of yoga involving synchronizing the breath with a progressive series of postures. This process produces intense internal heat and a purifying sweat that detoxifies muscles and organs. The results are improved circulation, a light, strong body and a calm mind.
Ashtanga is traditionally taught in the “Mysore” style, a guided self-practice. The same series of asana (postures) are practiced each day. New poses are introduced by the teacher once the student memorises and becomes proficient in the previous asana in the sequence. People of all ages and health can practice Ashtanga yoga. A student works with the teacher to progress at their own rate.
At Ashtanga Anatomy we are dedicated to teaching the traditional Ashtanga yoga method.
New to Mysore-style?
If you are new to practising Mysore-style you are welcome to come and observe how a Mysore-style class flows. The teacher can talk to you about getting started. When first beginning the Ashtanga yoga your practice will be short and you gradually build strength, flexibility and stamina over time. It is important that you don’t rush the process and regular practice is key.
We also offer Introduction to Mysore-style courses every month, please check our workshops page for the next one.
All new students must commit to a month of regular practice to get the full benefits of practising Ashtanga Yoga.
